Registration Fees

Building confidence and setting young girls down the path of a healthy lifestyle is PRICELESS! However, there are real costs associated with operating a nonprofit organization and delivering the Girls on the Run program to approximately 1,200 girls in the NYC area each year. Registration is $375 per girl and includes:

  • 20, 75-90 minute sessions conducted by certified GOTR volunteer coaches
  • Curriculum and lesson materials
  • A healthy snack at each session
  • Official GOTR T-shirt
  • 5K Registration fee
  • 5K Medal and race bib
  • Post 5K celebration

Our program fee is a sliding scale based upon current annual household income. This enables families to pay what they can based on their annual household income, and allows us to provide programming that is more equitable and accessible to all.

All families have the opportunity to enter the amount they can afford to pay on our checkout page. 100% of financial assistance requests are approved automatically.

Girls on the Run NYC will refund 50% of a participant's registration fee (minus the processing fee) if requested in writing to prior to the fourth practice of the season. After the fourth practice, no refunds will be issued.

My girl isn't a big runner; is this program for her? OR My girl is already a skilled runner. Is this program for her?

Yes! We are much more than a running program, and every participant can benefit from the experience of building confidence through accomplishment while participating in our rich, curriculum-based, age-appropriate, interactive lessons. Expect lots of games, talking, laughing and processing in addition to running at each practice. And know that when we say run, we mean run, walk, skip, roll or push, just as long as you are moving foward!

Who can participate in Girls on the Run?

We welcome children who identify as girls, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming to participate in our program.

When does the 10-week season begin?

Practices will begin in March. More information will be shared by the GOTR staff and by your girl's coaches once the season begins.

Do girls need to attend both days each week in order to register?

Yes! Since most of our teams fill up quickly, if your girl will be unable to attend all the sessions, please save room for a girl who can, and consider joining us in a future season when she can enjoy the entire program.

What does a typical Girls on the Run practice look like?

Typically the team meets immediately after school and have a healthy snack while being introduced to the topic of the day - such as inner beauty, choosing friends, or communicating emotions. They will warm-up with a brief interactive game and discuss how the game relates to the day’s topic. Girls then run laps, often incorporating brief activities or tasks that relate back to the day’s issue. At the end of the practice, the team comes together to stretch, cool-down and celebrate their accomplishments through energy awards. Focus is not on running the fastest or with perfect form, but moving forward at your own "happy pace".

Over the course of the program, participants will develop and improve competence, feel confidence in who they are, develop strength of character, respond to others and oneself with care and compassion, create positive connections with peers and adults, and make a meaningful contribution to community and society.

What does the program fee include?

The full cost of the program is $375 per participant. We are committed to providing a program that is accessible and inclusive for all girls, and we welcome you to use our sliding scale (by family income) when registering. Site-wide financial assistance is granted pre-registration. More than 80% of our students participate through financial assistance each season.

Your program registration fee includes all lesson materials, including GOTR curriculum, activity sheets, lap counters and more, a GOTR t-shirt, a bib entry into the season-ending 5k, a finisher's medal, and a healthy snack at every practice.

We can't afford the program registration fee, but our child would love to participate. How does the scholarship program work?

Don't let cost stop you from participating! We are committed to making Girls on the Run accessible to all who want to particpate! Thanks to generous donors and community supporters, program scholarships are available to any family who needs it, and we can also provide appropriate running shoes and attire if necessary. The online registration form will walk you through a few questions to find the fee that is right for your family based on a sliding scale.

What is the refund policy?

Girls on the Run NYC will refund 50% of a participant's registration fee (minus the processing fee) if requested in writing to program@gotrnyc.org prior to the fourth practice of the season. After the fourth practice, no refunds will be issued.

Is there a way for me to sponsor a participant for a season?

Yes! As a mission-driven 501(c)3, Girls on the Run relies on generous donors in order to provide more than $30,000 in program scholarships for families in need. Consider sponsoring a participant this season!
